Monday Motivation from itsbyu
Mondays can be rough, and sometimes, we can all use some motivation. That’s why we’re launching a #MondayMotivation blog series bringing you tips and life hacks from industry leaders and some of the most creative entrepreneurs out there.
In April we brought together 150 female founders for Project Entrepreneur’s inaugural NYC Weekend Intensive. itsbyu was one of one of our PE Class of 2016 finalists, participating in a pitch competition at the conclusion of the weekend. Read what makes these two sisters and co-founders – Caroline and Christine – stay motivated:
What motivated you to make the leap to launch your own startup?
We noticed this undeniable large white space in the market for DIY flower arrangements – over 50% of Christine’s business was coming from brides wanting to DIY their own flowers. So, we decided to give brides what they were asking for and create DIY flower kits that contained organic, fair trade flowers, tools and accessories, and a streaming step-by-step video lesson. We saw that the business could be scalable given our relationship with floral distributors as well as the pervasiveness of smart phones, broadband, and wifi that would allow our customers to view the videos from almost anywhere. The opportunity was too good for us not to make the leap!
What motivates you to keep going?
We have a great product for which customers are just craving, so that really motivates us. In addition, we want to see each other succeed. As sisters, nothing can make us happier than to have each other be successful.
What do you do every Monday morning to prepare and motivate yourself for the coming week?
It’s important as entrepreneurs to “keep it together” physically, mentally, and emotionally. So, we try to start off the week by taking care of ourselves, each other, and our business. We go to the gym, come home and make breakfast for each other, and then we make a list of everything that needs to be done that week for the business. We then just start hammering through the list and adding as we go along.
