PE Accelerator Week 2: Eva Sadej of Floss Bar

#PEIntensive18, Advice, female founders, healthcare, inspiration, Monday Motivation

Floss Bar is one of five companies participating in Project Entrepreneur’s five-week accelerator program at Rent the Runway Headquarters in New York City. Over the course of the #PEAccelerator, the founders will visit local tech companies, meet with venture capitalists and entrepreneurs, and connect with experts at Rent the Runway and UBS to gain insight and advice on topics critical to building and scaling a high-growth company.

For each of the five weeks of the #PEAccelerator, one of the five female founders incubating at Rent the Runway Headquarters will give the PE Community a sneak peek behind the scenes of the accelerator and share favorite moments, lessons learned, and key takeaways from the accelerator that week. For more from our #PEAcceleratorClass, be sure to follow Project Entrepreneur on Instagram (@pjtentrepreneur) to catch the founders’ Instagram Takeovers during the accelerator.

Eva Sadej is Founder of Floss Bar, a company that aims to reimagine oral care and make it conveniently available, conveniently priced, and incredibly fun! Eva took a leave of absence from pursuing her Wharton MBA when she came up with the idea for Floss Bar as a customer—she learned firsthand how logistically complicated it was to get basic dental care without taking 3 hours off of work or getting offered multiple extra services. Below she shares favorite moments, lessons learned and key takeaways from Week 2 of the PE Accelerator.

Eva Sadej, Founder and CEO of Floss Bar and PE Accelerator Participant

“The activity that most spurred my creative energy this week was led by Carly Roney, Co-Founder of The Knot/XO Group. During that exercise, I thought of a new PR angle for my business—that Floss Bar helps couples have better breath and therefore enjoy each other’s presence more. Allow the dentist to help your intimacy—who would have thought?

I also learned that it’s totally okay to not answer certain questions and that reporters expect that, versus me needing to be apologetic about it. Instead, I can come up with seven stats or talking points that they could use in their stories or writeups. This gives them great material, while at the same time not compromising the confidentiality of my trade secrets.

“This week I had a lot of fun with the Rent the Runway employees, who were very curious and excited to help. Rent the Runway Co-Founder and CEO Jenn Hyman did a great job ensuring that when we asked Rent the Runway staff for help, we were clear on what need help with. That way, we were immediately flocked with people who wanted to help us and who knew what to do. I think of Jenn Hyman as a great leader who drives efficiency and love between employees in her organizations, and that [love] extends to all of us in the PE Accelerator Class.”

I love my Accelerator mentors Will Flaherty (Rent the Runway’s Head of Growth Marketing) and Jim Wang (Rent the Runway’s Senior Director of Analytics). The 1-on-1 (or in my case 2-on-1) attention is so helpful. My mentors gave me great suggestions, like moving up where in our funnel Floss Bar checks patient insurance. They also recommended I professionalize my brand—Floss Bar is fun, but we are indeed healthcare. My meeting with Rent the Runway Co-Founder Jenny Fleiss was also great because she shared the best ways to navigate the internal dynamics of organizations I was getting to know and work with. She really empowered me to believe in myself and my ability to partner with these behemoth organizations.

My fellow founders in the PE Accelerator Class have been so open. I feel that as a founder who has gone through some struggles, I can use my coaching skills to help my fellow founders get through their own struggles too. I’ve also learned that the other founders in the Accelerator are way too humble! They are seriously successful and high-potential entrepreneurs. I want to help women everywhere shout their success from the mountain tops.”
